A simple and healthy Tamarind chili sauce recipe.

Tamarind is one of the best tropical fruits. It can be used for health, household purposes, and cooking. We are going to look at the health and cooking bit because of the simple fact that what goes into our bodies as meals directly affect our body’s health and performance

Health Purposes:

It can be used to treat fevers, constipation, ulcers, and diarrhea. As discovered in the traditional medicine back in the day and has since been used to treat the above issues. Tamarind has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that protect against diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Another powerful herb that has such properties is ginger, as someone who suffers from PCOS tamarind is a great substitute for ginger and that is why I use it sometimes to take a little break from ginger. Both ingredients are great.

Cooking Purposes:

It is used in many dishes and in different ways. Tamarind has this strong sweet and sour taste to it when taken in its original state. On the other hand, the hot pepper is HOT! and a little too much for me. So to make it bearable and to have that sweet, sour, and hotness in one bowl is cooking Tamarind in chili!.

It is a sauce that can be taken with literally any meal. It adds taste to your food especially those foods you rarely take because you do not fancy them that much. Below is what you will need to prepare the sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Chopped Bell pepper.
  • 1 medium sized Garlic.
  • 2 Chopped Onions.
  • 3 Chopped Ripe Tomatoes.
  • 1 big tablespoon of Paprika.
  • ½ cup Cooking oil of your choice.
  • Chilli peppers of your choice and amount.
  •  Soaked Palm sized Tamarinds as shown in the picture. The amount of water should be enough to only cover the tamarinds.
The ingredients,I did not have red chilies at the time. so I had to make do with green chilies and a small amount of it since I cannot handle the heat!

Note:

  • Preferably red chilies, they are generally more mellow compared to the green ones which are hotter and sharper in character.
  • A blender is required.

Instructions:

  • Blend all the peppers, tomatoes, garlic, onions together.
  • Squeeze out the soaked tamarinds and separate them from the seeds. Add the squeezed liquid to the contents in the blender and blend.
  • Place your cooking pot on the fire and add the cooking oil of your choice and let it heat up for about 30 seconds then pour in all the blended ingredients in the pot.
  • Stir the contents in the pot and reduce the heat to medium and cover the lid.
  • After  4 minutes add the paprika and salt(depending on your taste buds 😀), stir, and cover the lid.
  • Repeat the process of stirring and covering the lid for about 10 minutes or so until cooked.
  • When ready take the pot from the fire and let it cool and put into a container and store in the fridge. Take as desired.
